Several Iraqi soldiers, including two officers, were injured as a result of an attack carried out by a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt on an army force during a search operation in the Nuwaiket Mountains area, south of Mosul, Nineveh Governorate, in the north of the country.

And the Iraqi Army's Security Media Cell announced in a statement that two officers and two associates were wounded by a suicide bombing inside a tunnel during a search operation in the Nuwaiket mountain range, southwest of Nineveh.

The cell said in a statement that, "according to accurate intelligence from the Military Intelligence Directorate, an army force carried out a search and search operation in the Nuweket mountain range, southwest of Nineveh," noting that a group of tunnels was detected and one of the suicide bombers was killed in a clash, while a suicide bomber blew himself up inside. One of the tunnels, causing minor injuries to two officers and two mattresses.

And she added, "The army force then received orders to withdraw and stay away from the tunnels, so that the planes bombed the two tunnels, which resulted in the killing of the militants who were inside them."

The Islamic State still maintains sleeper cells scattered throughout the country, and has gradually begun to return to its old method of launching lightning attacks in the manner of guerrilla warfare that it used before 2014, taking advantage of the security gaps in the areas against which it is launching.

In 2017, Iraq declared victory over the Islamic State by restoring its entire territory, which was estimated at about a third of the country's area, which the organization invaded in the summer of 2014.
