The Ukrainians have regained control of the entire kyiv region after the withdrawal of Russian forces, announced on Saturday April 2, the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense.

Russian forces are redeploying to the east and south in an effort to "maintain control" of the territories they already occupy.

Peer de Jong, specialist in geopolitics, explains to Europe 1 the change of strategy of Putin's men.

Russian forces are increasingly struggling in Ukraine.

They are withdrawing from key towns, leaving behind totally devastated areas.

How does Vladimir Putin's army intend to regain the upper hand?

What strategy will she adopt?

Explanations by Peer de Jong at the microphone of Europe 1.

The Russians will concentrate their efforts on the Donbass

For the specialist in geopolitics Peer de Jong, we have been witnessing for a week a kind of "repositioning or in any case of reflection on a new strategy after the first fifteen days and the first three weeks which have not been crowned with success overall. for the Russians.

"As President Putin said a few days ago, they will focus their effort on Donbass, and at the same time on the Mariupol part, which is actually the connection between Russia, Donbass and Crimea. Overall , they will maintain the pressure on the whole territory and particularly in the east of the country, which is the zone through which the logistical flows pass", explains to the microphone of Europe 1 Peer de Jong, vice-president of the Themiis institute.

"It will take extremely serious investigations"

While the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, accuses Russia of having committed atrocities in the kyiv sector, Peer de Jong calls for caution.

"We must be wary of misinformation from each other, from Ukrainians and Russians alike," he said.

“We will have to carry out extremely serious investigations”.

For Peer de Jong, the war is played on three levels: the military level with a "redistribution of the cards", the diplomatic level which is a kind of "game" and the humanitarian level with two objectives for the Russians, to impress the Ukrainian populations so that they leave and arouse astonishment among European public opinion.
