The death of the documentary filmmaker was also announced by the Russian director Vitali Manski, founder of the respected Moscow festival Artdocfest to which Mantas Kvedaravicius had already been invited.

On Twitter, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said it was "shocked" by the news of his death.
