The Andalusian Minister of Education and Sports and former national basketball coach,

Javier Imbroda

, has died this Sunday at the age of 61, sources from the Andalusian Government have informed EFE.

His mortal remains have been transferred to

the Malaga Cemetery Park

(

Parcemasa

), where a mass will be held this afternoon, the Ministry has reported.

"At the express wish of the family, which appreciates all the signs of support received, he will be fired in the strictest privacy," the statement read.

Imbroda, who suffered from cancer, entered politics with

Ciudadanos

and was a counselor after the Andalusian elections of 2018.

He was a basketball coach between 2001 and 2002 and coached different teams in the

ACB league

for 17 seasons.
