Since the beginning of the afternoon, a huge and joyful crowd has gathered in the city center of Nantes.
The first parade of the 2022 edition of the carnival started this Sunday, after two years of interruption due to the health crisis.
Often spectacular, sometimes extremely sophisticated, fifteen floats and almost as many big heads filled the streets, as well as around 400 musicians.
“Three years without carnival is a long time.
It is a real institution in the city.
The children are delighted to see him again, the adults too,” enthuses Matthieu, his head covered in confetti.
The carnival continues on Wednesday with an afternoon reserved for children in Saint-André course.
Then there will be the famous night parade, Saturday evening, from 9 p.m.
The Nantes carnival is considered the second largest in France in terms of attendance, after that of Nice.
Its particularity is that it is completely free and financed by the city.
After each edition, part of the floats is destroyed, the other is sometimes sold or rented to festival committees.
