  In order to protect the historical relics of Angkor Wat, the Cambodian government has previously decided to relocate and build a new Siem Reap Airport. Three provincial state-owned enterprises in Yunnan Province of China, Yuntou Group, Yunnan Construction Investment Group and Yunnan Airport Group, jointly registered and established Angkor in Cambodia.   According to Lu Wei, Chairman of Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport project is located in Soongong County, eastern Siem Reap Province, about 40 kilometers away from Angkor Wat and 51 kilometers away from downtown Siem Reap. It covers an area of ​​700 hectares, with 1,000 hectares of surrounding supporting commercial development land, and another 24.5 kilometers of airport dedicated highways are also part of the airport project that can be independently operated, and the flight zone level is 4E.

The implementation of this project is of great significance for improving local infrastructure construction, increasing local employment rate, promoting tourism development and better protecting the historical sites of Angkor Wat.

  Lu Wei said that at present, there are more than 40 companies and nearly 2,000 local managers, technicians and construction personnel from China and Cambodia on the project site to promote the project construction.

The concrete structure of the terminal building of the project has been capped, the earthwork of the flight area has been successfully completed, and the basic engineering construction of the auxiliary supporting projects has been completed.
