Six people were killed and 10 others were injured in a holiday massacre in Sacramento, California.



Sacramento Police held a press conference and announced that the shooting took place in a downtown entertainment district around 2 a.m. local time on the 3rd.



Police Chief Cassie Lester said six people were already dead when a patrol officer heard gunfire and arrived at the scene, and 10 others who were shot are being treated in hospital.



The shooting scene is an area of ​​bars, nightclubs and restaurants, just two blocks from the California State Capitol.



It is known that the number of culprits has not yet been identified.



Police said they were pursuing the escaped suspect and requested a report from eyewitnesses.



A video was also uploaded to Twitter at the time of the shooting, showing people running down the street to evacuate the scene amid the sound of gunfire at high speed.



"The state government is working closely with law enforcement," California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement.
