China News Service, April 3. According to Reuters news, on April 2, local time, the government of Rio de Janeiro state in Brazil said that 14 people have been killed in the local area due to continuous heavy rains in recent days, causing flash floods and mudslides.

  Rescue workers answered 850 calls in the past 24 hours and moved 144 people to safety, state officials said.

  Paraty, a city on the south coast of Rio state, received 322 mm of rainfall in one day, the same as the local six-month average.

Local officials said mudslides blocked streets and isolated parts of the city, and entire neighborhoods were without power.

  Paraty has declared a state of emergency as the torrential rain continues.
