Ukraine denies attacking fuel depot inside Russia

has been accused of carrying out an attack on a fuel depot in the Russian city of

Belgorod

on Friday, an incident the Kremlin said could affect peace talks, but a senior Kiev security official denied responsibility.

The Russian Defense Ministry

said

two Ukrainian helicopters attacked the facility in Belgorod, some 35km from the Ukrainian border, after entering Russia at extremely low altitude around 5am Moscow time.

The resulting fire forced some people to evacuate, but Belgorod Mayor

Anton Ivanov

later said firefighters were extinguishing the last remnants.

"There is no threat to human life and health. All residents can return to their homes," he said in an online post.

Ukraine's top security official has

rejected the Russian accusation,

Moscow's first of an airstrike on Russian soil since Moscow launched its invasion on February 24.

Belgorod is one of Russia's main logistics hubs for the war.

has detailed the weapons included in the package, which include laser-guided rocket systems, tactical knife-edge automatic air systems, Puma automatic air systems, anti-automatic air system defenses, multi-purpose wheeled armored vehicles and non-standard caliber ammunition.

The military aid package also includes night vision devices, thermal imaging systems, secure tactical communication systems, non-standard machine guns, commercial satellite imaging services, and medical equipment.

This $300 million brings the total amount of US military aid to

Ukraine

since the start of the war to $1.6 billion;

and if the amount sent before the start of the invasion is also counted, the total amount reaches 2.3 billion since the current president, Joe Biden, took office in January 2021.
