The chairman of the Social Democrats emphasized that Russia is not the neighbor that Finland imagined and that the relationship between the countries has changed forever.

"Has consequences"

Sanna Marin said in the speech, which was held before the SDP's council on Saturday, that the country must quickly decide on a possible NATO application.

But what she personally thinks in the matter she kept to herself.

- If I announced my own position now, the discussion would end immediately, she said during a short press conference quoted by Hufvudstadsbladet.

According to the newspaper, Marin announced that the Finnish government will give a report on security policy to the Riksdag before Easter.

Sanna Marin says that during or before the meeting she will announce her own position on the issue.

- The decision must be made with care - both alternatives have consequences, said Sanna Marin in the speech according to Swedish Yle.

New sanctions against Russia

The Prime Minister also said that the country, if necessary, is prepared to impose new sanctions on Russia.

- Finland will continue to support Ukraine for as long as needed, we are also prepared to help with post-war reconstruction.

Ukraine's thing is ours, said Sanna Marin.
