According to the pastor, it was on Saturday morning that a neighbor of the church discovered what had happened and sounded the alarm to the police and parish.

P4 Västmanland was the first to tell about the incident.

Several meters of the church's eastern and northern outer wall and the stairs to the sacristy had been scrawled down.

- It is impossible to get away from the feeling that it has to do with the fact that we have become so involved in the refugee issue, and that Lindgården, which is home to Ukrainian refugees, is right next door.

But what evidence is there for that connection?

- Among other things, I have experience of similar from another parish during the refugee crisis in 2015, says Per Alkstål.

Damage and incitement against ethnic groups

Police patrols have been on site and, among other things, taken pictures and examined.

They are now investigating the incident as vandalism and incitement against ethnic groups due to the symbols on the wall.

- We do not rule out that there may be a connection to the migration housing next door, but there is also nothing we can prove at this early stage, says Per Bjurström, officer at the police regional command center.

According to a press release from the Church of Sweden, four churches in Västerås pastorate have also been exposed to graffiti: Romfartuna church, Lundby church, Skultuna church and Haraker's church.

According to the VLT, these are also similar symbols.

The incidents must be reported to the police.
