Wang Lutong, director of the European Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at the briefing that the meeting will conduct in-depth communication and coordination on international and regional hotspot issues. Regarding the Ukraine issue, both sides do not want the world to become divided, and they are even more opposed to any form of new cold war.

  Wang Lutong pointed out that this is the second time for the China-EU leaders' annual meeting to be held in nearly two years. It is the most important high-level exchange between China and EU institutions this year. Against the background of intensified international turbulence and new opportunities and new problems in China-EU relations It is of great significance and has attracted wide attention, and many consensuses and achievements have been reached.

  Talking about the main outcomes of the meeting, Wang Lutong said, first, make political guidance and strategic planning for the next stage of China-EU relations.

The two sides believe that China and the EU, as two major global forces, should maintain regular strategic communication, enhance mutual understanding, continue to expand cooperation, jointly address global challenges, and maintain world peace and prosperity as the world enters a new period of turbulence and change.

The two sides agreed to hold five high-level dialogues on strategy, economy and trade, green, digital and people-to-people and cultural engagement between China and the EU after the meeting to implement the consensus on the outcomes of the meeting.

  The second is to inject impetus into China-EU dialogue and cooperation in various fields.

Wang Lutong said that the two sides believe that the stability of China-EU relations should be used to deal with the uncertainty of the international situation.

Strengthen policy coordination, deal with risks and challenges, and contribute to the sustainable recovery of the world economy; strengthen the alignment of green development policies, enrich the connotation of dialogue and cooperation, and promote the deepening and practicality of China-EU green cooperation; actively expand new areas of cooperation such as digital, agriculture, science and technology, and emergency management. Work together to create new highlights; work together to fight the epidemic and steadily promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

  Regarding stabilizing the world economy, the two sides will strengthen communication on macroeconomic policies, and will also discuss issues that have a major impact on the economy, such as energy security, food security, and stability of industrial and supply chains.

Regarding economic and trade cooperation, the two sides support deepening China-EU economic and trade cooperation. Both sides agree that the China-EU Investment Agreement is a mutually beneficial and win-win agreement, and agree to work hard to advance the ratification process of the agreement.

Wang Lutong pointed out that with regard to the Ukrainian issue, both sides support peace negotiations, promote the cooling of the situation, prevent large-scale humanitarian crises, and control the spillover effects of the crisis.

Neither side wants the world to be divided, nor any form of a new cold war.

Through exchanges, the two sides also thought about how to truly achieve peace, and whether sanctions have played a role in easing the situation, ceasefire and stop war, and promote peace talks.

  In response to a question from a foreign media reporter about the sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries, Wang Lutong pointed out that the Sino-Russian trade cooperation relationship is in line with international law and is a normal trade relationship.

We do not believe that normal trade between China and any country should be affected.

Unilateral sanctions cannot solve any problems. We should maintain normal trade exchanges, avoid the destruction of the global supply chain and industrial chain, and jointly contribute to the development of the global economy.

  Wang Lutong also introduced China's efforts in persuading peace and promoting talks. China has always supported the ceasefire and has been working hard for it.
