Apple has released an emergency update to fix serious bugs it found in iPhones that enable hackers to use these bugs to take over your device, according to the British newspaper, The Sun.

Apple says two bugs allow rogue apps to "execute arbitrary code via some of the privileges allowed in the new vulnerability."

This means that hackers can use the apps to target important parts of your iPhone.

Worse, Apple says it is aware of reports that "the issue may have been actively exploited" by scammers.

These vulnerabilities are called "zero-day vulnerabilities," meaning that the bug was present and likely exploited before a fix was available, and it's not known what that might ensue.

Fortunately, it is now possible to patch the vulnerabilities just by updating your iPhone.

Updating your iPhone regularly is one of the best defenses against hackers.

It's how Apple delivers vital security updates that protect you. These updates correct bugs that criminals can exploit.

That's why it's best to turn on automatic iPhone updates, so you always have the latest updates.

But it's worth checking manually after new updates too, to make sure you get them ASAP.

According to Apple, an anonymous researcher reported the latest vulnerability.

The new update is called iOS 15.4.1 (iOS 15.4.1), and if your device no longer supports iOS updates, consider upgrading your phone very soon to avoid major cybersecurity risks.

How to update an iPhone?

Before any major iPhone update, you should make sure that you back up your phone, in order to reduce the risk of losing your data if a problem occurs during the update.

To do this, just go to the iCloud settings on your iPhone, then turn on the iCloud Backup feature.

Alternatively, you can connect your phone to iTunes, then choose the "Backup Now" option.

The easiest way to update your iPhone is wireless, and you only need to follow these simple steps:

  • Plug your iPhone into a power socket, and connect to a Wi-Fi network.

  • Go to "Settings", then to "General", and press "Update".

  • Click Download and Install to update right away, or plug in your phone overnight to update automatically while you sleep.

  • You may have to enter your passcode.

  • If you don't have enough space for the update on your phone, Apple may ask if it can temporarily remove some apps from your phone.

But don't worry, Apple will reinstall any deleted apps, including any data you've stored on those apps.
