Recently, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) confirmed that the number of infections caused by the new variant of the new coronavirus Omicron (XE) is increasing.

With 637 confirmed cases of XE infection in the UK so far, scientists are closely watching the variant's potential for transmission.

The new variant, XE, is a combination of Ormicyron strains BA.1 and BA.2, first discovered in the UK on January 19 this year.

Scientists currently don't have enough evidence to show how the recombinant variant evolved or its specific ability to spread.

But scientists are still working on this new variant.
