The report pointed out that on the afternoon of the 1st local time, two KT-1 trainers of the South Korean Air Force collided and crashed about 6 kilometers south of the Air Force Third Training Flight Regiment flight base in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province.
According to reports, the KT-1 is the first trainer aircraft independently developed and designed by South Korea. It has been deployed in actual combat since August 2000. It is mainly used for fighter alternate pilots to be proficient in basic driving skills.
In November 2003, a KT-1 crashed during flight training, killing one pilot.
The Air Force said at the time that the pilot made an error while operating the engine's electronic controls, which led to the accident.
