- It is actually a work we started before the pandemic.

But now with the war in Ukraine and increased threats from Russia, it has become significantly more topical.

We see a need to be able to prepare and secure welfare in Växjö, says Anna Tenje (M), chairman of Växjö's municipal board.

The fact that personnel are deployed means that they have an obligation to serve during heightened preparedness.

It is the government that decides on heightened preparedness, and if it falls, authorities, regions and municipalities must be able to continue to maintain their operations.

- Our staff is our most important resource.

It is not only in war and crisis, but also as in a pandemic or a storm.

Then you may need to know exactly what applies, says Anna Tenje.

The planned war deployment applies to Växjö municipality's more than 7,500 permanent employees.

Can not be refused

All permanent employees in Växjö municipality will now receive a letter about the decision on deployment, and what it means.

The personnel must then be inventoried to see who has military training or belongs to the Home Guard.

You can only be deployed in a war in one place, but it is only when you are informed of heightened preparedness that the deployment is activated.

- Some may feel a certain anxiety when you receive a letter like this.

The elderly who have worked for a long time in the public sector have experienced this before.

This is not really new, says Anna Tenje.

Can you refuse to be deployed?

- No, you can not refuse military deployment, says Anna Tenje.
