  Mazu is the goddess who protects the safety of the sea. After 36 times of praise in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Mazu has spread to 47 countries and regions around the world. There are more than 10,000 Mazu temples and more than 300 million admirers.

  The 23rd day of the third month of the lunar calendar is the birthday of Mazu, and believers at home and abroad go to Meizhou Island every year around the birthday to visit the ancestors.

This religious and custom activity of "Mazu returning to her mother's home" was huge and lasted for more than a month. From the first month of 2021 to the third month of the lunar calendar, more than 500,000 people visited the island to attend the meeting.

  Lin Jinzan, chairman of the board of directors of the Meizhou Mazu Temple, the organizer of the event, told a reporter from Chinanews.com that visiting Mazu from thousands of miles is a cultural landscape that has been passed down for thousands of years.

Under the epidemic, Meizhou Mazu Ancestral Temple and representatives of Mazu cultural institutions from countries along the “Belt and Road”, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, and domestic provinces and cities gathered in the cloud to visit Mazu in the form of live broadcast, praying for the “epidemic” to disperse.   During the live broadcast, representatives from dozens of Mazu temples in Nigeria, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand sent representatives to deliver speeches of blessings in the cloud.

Palaces and temples in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Yunlin, Kaohsiung, Yilan, Tainan, Keelung, Kinmen and other places have also been launched to participate in the grand event.
