The presidential plane used by former Mexican head of state Enrique Pena Nieto is for rent, BFMTV reports on Wednesday.
This is the solution found by the government which cannot manage to part with the Boeing 787 in the colors of Mexico.
Nobody wants to buy it and the lottery set up to win it was unsuccessful.
The aircraft has a capacity of 80 seats.
It is equipped with a VIP cabin with a large bed.
The comfort of the cabin is neat: the former president had a marble bathroom.
The rental will allow the jumbo jet to be used for weddings in the air, birthdays or even business trips.
It is a military company that will take care of renting it to individuals.
Bought 368 million euros
Ordered in 2012 and delivered in 2016, the presidential 787-8 Dreamliner will have cost 368 million euros and will not have been used much.
The aircraft is cumbersome for Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the current president, who chose not to use it, considering that the imposing aircraft was "an insult to the people".
Since he was elected in 2018, the head of state has promised to sell him.
But the success is not there.
The maintenance costs of such an aircraft are high.
Not sure that with this rental, the Mexican state is there.
