China News Agency, Anhui Tunxi, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi presided over the tripartite foreign ministers' meeting between China, Afghanistan and Pakistan in Tunxi, Anhui on March 30.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi and Afghan Interim Government Acting Foreign Minister Mottaki attended the meeting.

Wang Yi said that China, Afghanistan and Pakistan are traditional friendly neighbors. They are connected by mountains and rivers and share peoples and cultures. They jointly created the ancient Silk Road civilization and made important contributions to the integration and mutual learning of the East and the West.

We share a common historical experience and have always supported each other in the struggle for national liberation and independence.

Since the situation in Afghanistan has undergone fundamental changes, China and Pakistan have conducted dialogues and exchanges with the Afghan interim government in an equal and respectful manner, provided emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, and promoted the establishment of the Afghan-Neighboring Foreign Ministers mechanism as soon as possible.

The two sides also encouraged and supported Afghanistan's inclusive and prudent governance, urged the US to lift unilateral sanctions against Afghanistan, and brought together the international community to help support Afghanistan's consensus on peaceful reconstruction.

Wang Yi expressed that under the current situation, China, Afghanistan and Pakistan should restart the tripartite cooperation mechanism, and promote cooperation in the three fields of politics, development and security based on the principles of mutual respect, equal consultation, and mutual benefit and win-win results.

The first is to build tripartite political mutual trust based on the concept of good-neighborliness and friendship.

Adhere to benevolence and partnership with neighbors, support each other's core concerns, and safeguard common interests.

The second is to promote trilateral pragmatic cooperation with the goal of benefiting people's livelihood.

Jointly build the "Belt and Road", promote the extension of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to Afghanistan, and help Afghanistan participate in regional connectivity.

The third is to strengthen counter-terrorism security cooperation under the guidance of the new security concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable.

We will take comprehensive measures to address both the symptoms and root causes, eradicate the breeding ground for terrorism, and achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

Qureshi and Mottaki spoke positively of the significance of the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan tripartite meeting and the Afghan Neighboring Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and thanked China for hosting the meeting and playing a coordinating and leading role.

Qureshi said that a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan is most beneficial to its neighbors.

The Pakistani side supports Afghanistan in strengthening contacts with the outside world, actively responding to the concerns of the international community, and is willing to continue to help Afghanistan improve people's livelihood and gain more understanding and support.

Afghanistan's frozen overseas assets should be returned immediately.

Mottaki expressed his gratitude to China for providing Afghanistan with opportunities for dialogue and exchanges with neighboring countries, and Afghanistan is willing to develop relations with friendly countries.

The primary task of the Afghan interim government is to achieve stability, develop the economy and improve people's livelihood.

The Afghan side understands the concerns of the international community on the rights and interests of women and children, especially the education of girls, and will actively and progressively promote it.

The interim government has never banned girls from going to school and has reopened 60% of schools so far.

Mottaki said that Afghanistan is willing to make a solemn commitment to China, Pakistan and the world once again that terrorists will never be allowed to use Afghanistan's territory to harm the interests of other countries and their citizens.

Thanks to China and Pakistan for providing valuable support for the development and reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is reluctant to rely on charitable aid for a long time, and hopes to strengthen China-Afghanistan-Pakistan tripartite cooperation and actively participate in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road".

The three parties agreed to hold a formal dialogue between the foreign ministers of China, Afghanistan and Pakistan at an appropriate time.
