Not just M, not just F, but also X, at the discretion of the person requesting it.

The State Department, which manufactures American passports, has chosen the international day for the visibility of transgender people in order to move forward in this process launched last June.

It is about giving transgender people, non-binary people or people who do not recognize themselves in the feminine and masculine boxes, the possibility of being able to assert their identity more.

A first passport X had already been issued

last October, but from April 11 it will therefore be at the free choice of the persons concerned and not according to the goodwill of the administration.

The White House is also taking a number of steps to facilitate administrative procedures for transgender people.

Transgender people are among the bravest in our country.

But no one should be brave just to be themselves

,” the presidency said in a statement.

These initiatives come as controversies regularly erupt over the participation of transgender people in sports competitions, for example.

Conservative states have adopted restrictive regulations on these issues.

Legislation that “

risks creating discrimination and harassment

 ” believes the White House.
