In the space of five days, two lynx were hit and killed on the A40, in Haute-Savoie.
According to the departmental branch of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), relayed by
Le Dauphiné Libéré
, the two accidents took place on February 23 and 28.
The first occurred near Dingy-en-Vuache and cost the life of a female.
A few days later, a male died in a collision at Eloise.
The animal was seen for the first time in Switzerland, in March 2020. The presence of the latter was then noticed again in the municipalities of Ain and Haute-Savoie, in June and October 2021.
The bodies analyzed
The two remains were taken in charge by the OFB and transported to a laboratory for analysis.
Road collisions are one of the main causes of lynx mortality in France.
54% of lynx found dead are due to collisions with land infrastructure.
