• The nights of some residents of the Bordeaux Ginko district are disturbed by the drifts and roar of tuning enthusiasts, who meet in a nearby car park.

  • The deputy mayor of the district explains that work is being carried out by the national police to restrict access to the car park after 10 p.m.

  • Rumble strips were also installed on an avenue which served as a drag strip to discourage practitioners.

  • Residents are asking that the streets taken by tuning enthusiasts across the district be made less welcoming to them.

The high-pitched roar of tuned cars, some of which have been modified to precisely emit more noise, spoil the daily life of Stéphane, who has lived in the Ginko district in Bordeaux for six years.

"You hear them whether you're watching TV or listening to music," testifies this former Parisian, who was thinking of moving to a quiet provincial town.

And it's not just about kids on motorcycles having fun at a few night rodeos in the summer.

Between the #GCUM, the infrequent place Jean Cayrol and the return of the rodeos of the beautiful days... We suffer this life here rather than we flourish.

Every Friday evening, it's the same carousel: fans of tuning, a process which consists of making visual and/or technical modifications to one's vehicle, meet from 10 p.m. in the parking lot of Auchan and Leroy Merlin .

They compare their cars, the power of their engines, and demonstrations are even organized under the gaze of a sometimes quite dense public, who come from all over the region.

“I understand that it causes concern”

These meetings are known to the deputy mayor of the Bordeaux Maritime district Vincent Maurin, who even attended one of them.

If he considers that there is no particular security problem in these gatherings in mind, which he describes as "good child", the noise pollution is undeniable.

"I understand that it generates concern because that's a lot of cars crossing a neighborhood," he concludes.

Stéphane confirms: it's not once in the car park that these vehicles are a problem, but when they get there or when they leave, sometimes at 3 a.m., passing through the streets of the district.

Small “races” can also be organized in the adjacent streets which lend themselves to a nice acceleration.

This was the case on the Cours Jules Ladoumègue, between the stadium and the exhibition center and rumble strips were installed by the town hall to discourage participants, anxious not to damage their revamped cars sometimes at great expense.

If the straight line is away from the houses, the problem remains that they poison the lives of the residents in their path.

“The police move when they are contacted, assures Vincent Maurin.

She verbalizes when she can but she refused to make regular visits to supervise these wild gatherings which begin in a private place, the parking lot of Auchan.

“There is total tolerance!

An operational partnership group (GPO), a cooperation tool created by the national police, has been launched on this subject and involves the Auchan group to find a solution.

In this context, "the police are working to secure the car park after 10 p.m. by means of a barrier, the security officers being quickly overwhelmed", specifies the deputy mayor of the district.

Access would be reserved for supermarket delivery activities, to avoid crowds in car parks.

Vincent Maurin reports that this solution is currently being studied and hopes that it will materialize quickly.

This solution may only move the problem to another meeting place but would have the merit of making the neighborhood less welcoming.

To ensure quieter nights, residents would like speed bumps to be installed in the streets crossing the district, in order to deter runs and rifts.

They would also appreciate if police patrols show up on Friday nights in the area.

“For the moment, there is total tolerance of this practice, until an accident occurs, believes Stéphane.

There is regularly street furniture smashed by these practitioners.

For him, these tuned vehicles, (and some modifications of which must be approved by the administration), circulate with complete impunity.

“Accepting noises like normal road traffic, buses, garbage trucks etc.

when you live in town it makes perfect sense but not these rodeos because they are illegal.
