The deans and directors of the Faculties and Schools of the University of the Basque Country (UPV)

have publicly denounced the

incidents caused by young radicals

on

March 24

on the three Basque campuses because

"they hit university coexistence."

In a public statement that avoids using the condemnation of these sabotages, those responsible for the university centers state that

threats

were made to university personnel on the Álava campus and

two workers needed medical attention

.

The damage is quantified at

55,000 euros

and the Ertzaintza made

34 arrests

.

The deans and university directors attribute to "an organized group" the incidents that occurred during a day of mobilization called in Euskadi by

Ikasle Abertzaleak (IK)

and by

Unibertsitateko Indar Batasuna (UIB)

, a university group from

Gazte Koordinadora Sozialista (GKS)

.

Hooded and wearing masks, they stormed the Alava Faculties of Letters and Pharmacy

in the early hours of the 24th

, launching rockets, carrying flares and destroying educational material.

The balance of the UPV quantifies the damage at 55,000 euros.

Graffiti was also carried out

on the three campuses

in a mobilization called to protest educational reforms, including the agreement on the bases of the future Basque Education Law supported by PNV, PSE-EE, Podemos and EH Bildu.

University officials confirm that the student protest had the "permission" of the UPV that had authorized the

"academic strike"

.

"The UPV-EHU allowed throughout the day

to defend the rights of the student body

and the carrying out of academic protests," they say, having completed the university protocol in the student representative bodies.

But these groups critical of the political leadership of EH Bildu in the Izquierda Abertzale, made threats against university workers and at least two of them required medical assistance.

The deans and directors endorse the

decision made by the vice-rector of the Álava campus, Manoli Iguartua

, who, upon verifying the violent behavior of hooded men, requested the intervention of the Ertzaintza.

Several units of the Mobile Brigade initially detained

5 young people

and then

combed the interior of the Lecture Hall

to identify and detain another

29 young people .

They tried to hide inside.

The 34 detainees appeared before the judge on the 24th and were released, although the Ertzaintza has not reported the charges against the alleged perpetrators of the sabotage.
