After 2012 and 2017, the deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône is running again for the presidential election and dreams of finally reaching the second round.

He pleads for a "mutual aid society" where "harmony between human beings and with nature" reigns.

Here are the main lines of the program of the candidate of the People's Union.

A Sixth Republic

Jean-Luc Mélenchon wants a more parliamentary and participatory Sixth Republic.

He intends to convene a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution in two years.

He plans to lower the right to vote to 16 years and is in favor of the recognition of the blank vote.

He also wants the right to contraception and abortion to be enshrined in this Constitution.

Social

The candidate of the Popular Union knows that he is eagerly awaited in the social field.

If he is elected, he promises to block the prices of basic necessities (five vegetables and fruits, pasta, hygiene, fuel, etc.) and to increase the minimum wage to 1,400 euros net.

He wants to raise the retirement age to 60 and guarantee a minimum wage for 40 contribution years, with a minimum of 1,063 euros for incomplete careers.

It also promises paid employment at minimum wage in the ecological transition or social sectors for all the long-term unemployed who will be volunteers.

Work and taxes

Jean-Luc Mélenchon wants to limit the maximum salary to 20 times the minimum salary in a company.

He advocates the introduction of a more progressive income tax and a CSG bringing the effort to the richest.

He also defends the return of the wealth tax (ISF) and the creation of a universal tax against tax evasion.

He wants to require companies to pay a 10% bonus to all their female employees, charging the employer to prove that equal pay is already there.

Ecology

The deputy wishes to include in the Constitution a “green rule” according to which “one does not take more from nature than what it is able to reconstitute”.

More concretely, he wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65% ​​by 2030 or even subsidize the thermal renovation of 700,000 homes per year.

He wants to abandon nuclear power by 2045 and invest in renewable energies.

Education

Jean-Luc Mélenchon plans to recruit enough teachers to reach 19 students per class on average.

At the same time, he promises to increase their salaries by 30% and to establish contract workers.

He also defends free canteens, transport and school supplies.

Security and justice

The candidate of the Popular Union says he wants to put an end to the policy of “numbers” within the police.

He wants to restore local policing, strengthen the training of officers and abolish the BAC.

It also intends to ban the use of dangerous law enforcement equipment.

He finally wants to launch a plan to fight against anti-LGBTI violence.

At the level of justice, he promises the recruitment of 13,000 magistrates, 20,000 clerks, and 10,000 administrative staff.

He wants to make certain routine procedures like divorce free.

World

Jean-Luc Mélenchon is in favor of leaving NATO for the benefit of "anti-globalization alliances" and advocates the "non-alignment" of France with the great powers.

He wants to make France a land of welcome for migrants and regularize undocumented workers.
