The Rally of the People of Guinea (RPG) is organizing an extraordinary national convention this Thursday, March 31, in Conakry.

A large gathering to elect the provisional executive members.

Headed by former Prime Minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana.

This convention comes in a complex context for the party of ex-president Alpha Condé, who has been on a medical stay in Abu Dhabi since January 17.

The Provisional Executive Council aims to reorganize the party and prepare for the next presidential election.

A few weeks ago, the political bureau and the central committee of the RPG agreed on the figure of Ibrahima Kassory Fofana to lead this new structure.

Problem: several activists opposed it, each displaying their ambitions.

Among them, Ibrahima Kalil Kaba, former head of Guinean diplomacy and who mainly mobilizes young people.

Facing him, party caciques such as Dr. Mohamed Diané, former Minister of Defense, or Amadou Damaro Camara, former President of the National Assembly, a long-time RPG activist.

Search for consensus   

This Thursday, about sixty delegates from the regions are expected to elect all the positions to be filled within the provisional executive council.

In recent days, party executives have multiplied courtesy visits to obtain a consensus around Kassory Fofana: they hope to have a single candidate in the running to lead this new structure.
