The prefecture of Guadeloupe announced in a press release on Wednesday that the state of health emergency will be lifted Thursday evening at midnight, underlining "the improvement of the health situation" on the island.

The curfew will end, as will the obligation to wear a mask in public spaces.

The state of health emergency will be lifted in Guadeloupe on Thursday evening at midnight, the prefecture announced in a press release on Wednesday.

Stressing "the improvement in the health situation which is stabilizing at a high level with decreasing hospital pressure", the prefecture announced the end of the curfew and the wearing of compulsory masks in public spaces as of Friday.

The presentation of the health pass in establishments open to the public will no longer be required from Monday.

During the week of March 21 to 27, 3,214 Covid-19 contaminations were recorded, against 3,448 the previous week, according to a second press release from the authorities.

If the incidence and positivity rates remain high (852.8 per 100,000 inhabitants and 13.9%), they are decreasing, as is the number of people present in the intensive care unit of the Guadeloupe University Hospital.

In addition, the figures for hospitalizations (39) and deaths (6) are up slightly.

These measures which will remain in force

Certain measures will remain in force after the lifting of the state of emergency: the vaccination obligation for healthcare personnel, the wearing of masks in public transport and the health pass in health establishments.

Non-vaccinated people will still have to show "compelling reasons" to take a Hexagon-Guadeloupe flight, but they will no longer have to isolate themselves for seven days on arrival.

In Guadeloupe, only 45.63% of the population over the age of 12 have received a first injection of vaccine, when 23.40% have a complete vaccination schedule (two doses and a booster), according to the ARS which also specifies that “94 first doses of Novavax vaccine”, present on the island since the beginning of March, have been distributed and “seven second doses” have already been administered.
