A huge fire broke out today, Thursday, in Souk Al Mubarakiya, the oldest adjacent commercial market in Kuwait, resulting in injuries and material losses, according to the authorities.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health said that the fire injured 14 people with minor burns and suffocation, noting that most of the injured were treated.

The Kuwait News Agency quoted the General Fire Service as saying that the fire damaged dozens of shops containing perfumes and leather in the Mubarakiya market.

The firefighting force deployed 8 teams to fight the fire, and video clips on social media showed flames and clouds of smoke rising from the market.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior and the Public Fire Brigade called on citizens and residents not to approach the fire area.

Souk Al Mubarakiya is the oldest market in Kuwait, with a history dating back more than 120 years.
