Van der Poel beat his last companion, the Belgian Tiesj Benoot.

Behind the two men, out in the last two kilometers, the Briton Tom Picock took third place, a handful of seconds.

The race, 184 kilometers long, began to unravel 68 kilometers from the finish on an attack by the Ineos team (Turner, Pidcock) relayed by the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel, who trapped the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, winner of the Tour de France.

Pogacar, who tried in vain to return alone, then found himself in a chasing group without managing to return to the leading group.

Van der Poel (27), who will be one of the big favorites of the Tour of Flanders, had already won in 2019 in Through Flanders.
