The current ice rink in Karslund is almost 70 years old and and the ice hockey club IF Lejonet has had to cancel three matches this season due to poor ice quality.

- There are restrictions on how it can be used and there are various concerns such as that it may not be used when there is a lot of snow on the roof, says Mattias Pålsson, youth manager at IF Lejonet.

Crucial for the hockey club

The City of Landskrona is now presenting the plans for a new ice rink that will accommodate two rinks.

One will have an audience hall with 500 spectator seats and the other a special facility that will facilitate figure skating and reduce fall injuries.

The opening hours for the public will also increase to 15-20 hours a week during the winter.

- It is very welcome with a new hall and it has always been central for us to get another space, says Mattias Pålsson.

Several years of construction

The ice rink is part of a large sports area that is planned to be built in Karlslund and the detailed plan for the entire project will not be discussed in the council until June.

After that, the city hopes for a start of construction next year and that it will be ready in five, six years.

In that case, the ice rink will be the first to go into construction, but until then IF Lejonet wants to see a temporary solution, something that is currently unclear.

- The biggest challenge will be how to solve it until then.

We still want an extra ice surface that relieves in the short term, says Mattias Pålsson.

Will the city arrange a temporary extra ice surface?

-

It is too early to answer.

It is an ongoing work with what you can do and what it costs, but we have no ready-made solution, says Torkild Strandberg.

The price tag has not been set yet, but according to Torkild Strandberg, the entire Karlslund project will cost around 800 million.
