Politics The Government does not rule out extending the shock plan, as its partners in Congress demand
Congress will approve the government's shock plan despite the fact that all groups call it "insufficient"
The
Government
wants to please United We Can, the PP and the parliamentary partners at the same time.
The response plan to the energy crisis that the
Ministry of the Presidency
has prepared tries to please everyone, but at this moment it is limping on the
popular
side .
Alberto Núñez Feijóo complains that, contrary to what was approved at the
Conference of Presidents
in
La Palma
, there will be no additional tax cuts.
And from
La Moncloa
They reply that the extension of the tax reductions that were in force is already sufficient to fulfill that commitment.
And that the decree "is a living text" in which "at least one measure" demanded by each of the parties with which the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has spoken has been incorporated.
In addition, the government sources consulted by EL MUNDO assure that Bolaños notified the spokesperson for the
Popular Party
in Congress, Cuca Gamarra, that the decree would include two additional rate cuts.
One, the exemption from port taxes on fishing for six months.
And the other, of much greater economic significance, the temporary elimination - throughout 2022 - of 80% of the electricity tolls paid by electro-intensive industries.
It is also about two measures that are in line with what Feijóo approved in
Galicia
two weeks ago.
The president of the
Xunta
announced "a zero rate for unloading fish and using pontoons for the entire fishing industry" and called for specific measures for the "electro-intensive industry" and "refocusing the necessary energy transition so that it does not affect crucial sectors such as automotive or the aluminum industry.
In his conversation with Bolaños, Gamarra "requested additional tax cuts, but without presenting any documents," they explain in Moncloa.
PP sources reply that it was precisely the minister who had to provide the draft of the royal decree, but he did not do so, and did not give details of the measures.
Bolaños "explained that there were going to be tax cuts", but sticking to the extension of those already approved, "which represent between 10,000 and 12,000 million" of extra tax relief for the pockets of citizens, according to the calculations handled by the Executive.
The Council of Ministers itself launched this idea yesterday.
"It's very clear.
This package of measures incorporates tax cuts," remarked the first vice president, Nadia Calviño, at the subsequent press conference, who said she expected the Chamber's "unanimous support" for this plan, unlike United We Can, which rules out the support of the opposition and is committed to taking advantage of this opportunity to reassemble the majority of the investiture.
While Calviño challenges Feijóo to show if the turn towards moderation is real, the
purples
consider that the plan bears the "seal" of the party, which has managed to drive away the PP and curb the impulses that the PSOE tempts the
popular
with a further reduction in the tax burden.
In effect, the state pact with the PP is moving away.
"If for them to lower taxes is to maintain the taxes that exist...", they complain in Feijóo's environment.
What the PP is asking for is to lower
VAT
to 4%, cut the
Special Tax on Hydrocarbons
and “deflate personal
income tax
”.
The
popular
ones now see the "yes" to the validation of the decree more difficult, but they insist that they want to wait until they can read the full text to make decisions, because that is "the responsible thing to do."
"The proposal to lower taxes was put on paper and in the end it seems that it will not take place", they resign themselves in the environment of the
popular
leader .
"It is not the best way to cultivate Feijóo's pactist vocation," they insist.
Government sources assure that the agreement of the socialist wing with United We Can was closed on Sunday, although from then until yesterday the decree has been "shaped" to satisfy the parliamentary partners.
Hence, not even some technicians from
La Moncloa
knew the text, contrary to the usual trend.
