At the end of March, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) made an inquiry to Sweden's regions about the possibility of receiving patients from Ukraine.

Swedish Ambulance Flight, KSA, then made itself available to perform airborne ambulances of patients and yesterday the first two patients were picked up in Warsaw, Poland.

- The assignment took a total of 4-5 hours, including loading and unloading, Stockholm-Warsaw.

It all went very smoothly and one of the pilots fortunately spoke both Ukrainian, Russian and Polish, says Anders Sylvan, who is the union director at KSA.

- These are not war-injured, but they are patients with serious illnesses.

Healthcare in Poland is extremely strained, and the EU has said that it will help together.

KSA will probably make more ambulances based on the need in Ukraine and the Swedish hospitals' ability to receive patients.

KSA is still prepared and plans day by day from the coordination center (FKC) in Umeå.
