• Saturday, in Aulnay-sous-Bois, around 12:30 p.m., a police officer used his weapon, hitting a motorist who was driving a stolen van.

  • Seriously injured in the left shoulder blade, the driver died at the end of the afternoon in hospital.

His name was Jean-Paul and he was from the Beaudottes district in Sevran.

  • Since his death, urban violence has erupted in Sevran, Aulnay-sous-Bois and Tremblay-en-France.

During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, ten people were arrested in Sevran, Aulnay-sous-Bois and Tremblay-en-France (Seine-Saint-Denis) in the fourth episode of urban violence following the death of a resident killed by a police shooting on Saturday.

An important security device had again been deployed in these three cities northeast of Paris, where the scuffles multiplied throughout the night.

The ten individuals were arrested for "participation in a group with a view to committing violence or damage", "willful violence against a person holding public authority" and "willful damage by fire", indicated a police source.

Fourteen vehicles burned

In total, 14 vehicles were set on fire, as well as about fifteen garbage cans, and a municipal police vehicle was degraded by projectiles, counted the same source.

A fire also targeted a gymnasium in Aulnay-sous-Bois but no one was injured, according to the same source.

Since the start of the clashes, eleven people, including two minors, have been presented to a judge, three prisoners awaiting trial and numerous police custody were in progress, according to a report from the Bobigny prosecution on Tuesday evening.

Tension remains high in the three municipalities shaken by the death on Saturday of Jean-Paul known as "JP", a resident of the Beaudottes district in Sevran, driving a van declared stolen.

A dispute at the origin of the theft

During a check of the vehicle in Aulnay-sous-Bois around 12:30 p.m., "a policeman went up to the driver's window and, in circumstances that remain to be determined, used his weapon, only one shot, when the van suddenly restarted, ”recounted Éric Mathais, the prosecutor of Bobigny.

Seriously injured in the left shoulder blade, the driver died at the end of the afternoon in hospital.

The autopsy confirmed that the shooting was the cause of death, Eric Mathais said on Tuesday.

According to the accounts of residents met by AFP on Monday, "JP" was an independent delivery driver who worked for a provider of a parcel delivery platform.

He had stolen the van because of a financial dispute between them.

The policeman, 32 years old and hospitalized "in a state of shock", must be heard as soon as his condition allows it, said the prosecution.

The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) was seized of the investigation.
