The 'Hwasong 17', which North Korea fired from the Pyongyang Sunan Airfield on the 16th, exploded in mid-air during the initial stage of launch.

The Ministry of National Defense said in an undisclosed report to the National Assembly that it is possible that the ICBM detonated several kilometers in the air, causing missile fragments to fall near Pyongyang.

[Ha Tae-kyung / People's Power Rep. (Yesterday): It is said that the height of the explosion was only a few kilometers.

It was raining missile fragments, in Pyongyang.] A

high-ranking intelligence official told SBS reporters that the missile fragments did not fall like hail on a private house, but that the fragments damaged major facilities in Pyongyang.

In particular, the Kim Jong Il Political and Military University is located 9.5 km southeast of Sunan Airfield in a straight line and 12 km north of Okryugwan.

It was also reported that two people were killed in the explosion that day.

It is unknown whether any actual casualties have occurred, and it is known that the intelligence authorities are conducting further analysis.

The South Korean and US intelligence agencies evaluate that North Korea tried to persuade the public by hastily fired the Hwasong 15 as if it were a 17 on the 24th due to these circumstances overlapping.
