11 garbage cans and four burned vehicles

A total of 11 garbage containers and four vehicles were set on fire, and makeshift barricades erected, AFP learned from a police source.

Around 1:30 a.m. in Sevran, an old 100m2 disused sports hall was destroyed by the flames.

No one was injured, according to the same source.

During these clashes, 13 people, including 5 minors, were arrested on suspicion of damage by fire and projectiles fired at the police.

Ten custody continued on Tuesday evening, and three people were presented to a judge to answer for "rebellion" or "willful violence against a person holding public authority with a weapon by destination", said the Bobigny prosecution.

The previous two days, 16 people had been taken into custody.

Three of them were imprisoned while awaiting trial.

Less than two weeks before the first round of the presidential election, the far-right candidate Éric Zemmour went to the Sevran police station on Tuesday and in front of the burnt-out premises.

"We will eradicate the scum as it was necessary to terrorize the terrorists," he told the press.

"By rushing to Sevran, Éric Zemmour behaves like a scavenger. Both the police and the inhabitants need justice and appeasement", reacted on Twitter the socialist president of Seine-Saint-Denis, Stéphane Kit.

The shooting that caused death

These degradations and violence follow the death on Saturday of Jean-Paul known as "JP", a resident of the Beaudottes district in Sevran, father of four children.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, a crew from the Aulnay-sous-Bois anti-crime brigade (BAC) is required to track a van reported stolen.

He tries to check the driver, stopped at a red light on a street in this city.

"A policeman went up to the driver's window and, in circumstances which remain to be precisely determined, used his weapon - a single shot - as the van suddenly started again", traced Sunday Éric Mathais, the prosecutor of Bobigny.

Seriously injured in the left shoulder blade, according to a police source, the driver of the van died at the end of the afternoon at the hospital.

The autopsy confirmed that the shooting was the cause of death, said Éric Mathais.

"It's a murder, it's an injustice," denounced residents met by AFP on Monday.

According to their stories, "JP" was a freelance delivery driver who worked for a provider of a parcel delivery platform.

He had stolen the van because of a financial dispute between them.

The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) was seized of the investigation.

The policeman, 32 years old and hospitalized "in a state of shock", "must be heard in the days to come" as soon as his condition allows it, said the prosecution.
