The Public Prosecutor's Office of the National Court approves seven of the eight third grades granted by the Basque Government to ETA prisoners.

The decision supposes to support the first movement of the Executive of

Iñigo Urkullu

on the inmates of the terrorist organization.

Last October, the Basque Executive assumed responsibility for penitentiary matters.

A month ago, he granted semi-liberty to eight ETA prisoners, a decision that had to be communicated to the Prosecutor's Office.

The Public Ministry received the reports two weeks ago.

Once the head of the Audience Prosecutor's Office was renewed, in which the attorney general has proposed Jesús Alonso for another five years, the Public Ministry has made a move.

The prosecutor of the Court appointed to review all the cases,

Carlos Bautista

, has only appealed to the Central Judge of Penitentiary Surveillance for the release of the

historic

ETA member

Fiti

.

The Public Ministry considers that the rest of the cases are well founded.

The granting of the third degree is executive, which means that the beneficiaries have already been in a semi-freedom regime for a month.

In some cases, her departure occurred before the Basque Minister for Equality and Justice,

Beatriz Artolazabal

, made the

package

of releases public in an interview in

El Correo

.

The Prosecutor's Office is the only legitimate party to appeal the third degrees, which means that seven of the ETA prisoners have already secured their new regime.

In the case of

Fiti

, the resolution of the appeal corresponds to the court that supervises the sentences of the National High Court.

Their decision may be appealed -either by the Prosecutor's Office or by the prisoner- before the Criminal Chamber of that court.

Kidnapping of Aldaya and Delclaux

In addition to

Fiti

, the seven for whom, according to the Basque Government and the Prosecutor's Office, the third degree is justified are:

Unai Fano

,

Francisco José Ramada

,

Mikel Arrieta

,

Egoitz Coto

,

José Ángel Lerín

,

Ignacio Garcés Beitia

and

Ugaitz Pérez

.

All serve -although now in semi-liberty- heavy sentences.

In the case of Ramada, for example, due to the kidnapping of businessmen

José María Aldaya

and

Cosme Delclaux

.

After knowing the Basque Government's proposal, the victims' associations publicly asked the Prosecutor's Office to appeal the semi-freedoms.

"These are members of ETA who are proud of their criminal past and who have all the logistical and propaganda support of the nationalist left

,

" said the Collective of Victims of Terrorism.

Her president recently met with the chief prosecutor Alonso at the National Court to ask him to stop the movement of the Basque Executive.
