Stowed at the foot of the Confluence shopping center, the Neos barge wants to welcome young people from the MJC Confluence, every day of the week.
This floating annex has been designed so that 11-26 year olds can make it their own around events that they are free to imagine and organise.
Neos wants to be a place of life, meetings, information and accompaniment, driven by the staff of the MJC and the young people of the district.
Even at the quay, even at the foot of a shopping center, the sight of a barge ignites the imagination.
We can imagine groups of friends remaking the world on the roof terrace, singing and dancing in its long main room, dreaming of great ideas while contemplating the waves.
In any case, this is the objective of the Neos barge (“young” or “new” in Greek), which the MJC Confluence (Lyon 7th) acquired to offer its young members a place of their own.
For Pierre Bobineau, director of the MJC Confluence, it is also the culmination of an idea born 10 years ago: "The MJC house, located on quai Rambaud, is 850 m2, of which only 360 m2 are useful .
So we knew from the start that it would be too small, and there was also not this notion of appropriation that we hold so dear.
In 2012, one of our trainees had imagined what we could do with a barge, and we waited for an opportunity, until this one which offers a certain number of possibilities.

Slots open according to age groups
Neos, converted into an EFRP (Etablissement Flottant Recevant du Public “), will therefore receive from this Tuesday an audience of 11 to 26 years old, registered at the MJC Confluence, according to slots adapted to the age groups.
Dimitri Valiau, youth coordinator, wants “that it be open every day, by welcoming students for example at lunchtime for their lunch break, and to reserve the evening for accompanying or welcoming young people from the neighborhood.
Partners are engaging with us, such as Safeguard 69's prevention educators."
Pierre Bobineau indicates that “the main principles of youth work can be summed up by the word AAAMI: Reception, Animation, Accompaniment of individual or collective projects, and MI for Youth Mediation and Information”.
Everything will be possible there in the Neos barge.
Inside, the modular space and its wide brushed floor will be able to accommodate shows, conferences and concerts.
“With 100 m2 inside and 100 m2 on the catwalk, that opens up possibilities!” rejoices the director.
It is a place just waiting to be lived in, offering flexibility both in terms of the imagination and the spirit of initiative of young people.
Because it is important that they want to be the promoters of their projects.
We are just here to stimulate.

Léo, 20, and Hélène, 18, are already on the bridge.
These two new directors of the MJC Confluence already have long-term views for Neos.
“It can bring life to young people in the neighborhood, assures Léo.
The MJC was not the most appropriate for supervising them in activities, whereas here, having this large space, not yet fitted out, can really make them actors in the place.
They will thus be able to appropriate it over the long term, across generations.

Hélène confirms: “At the EVS (social living space), there are always plenty of people who come by all day.
Thanks to this barge, young people will have their own place to rest, have fun, evolve.
And flourish in a safe place, along the water.
