• The Panel Two thirds of the women disapprove of the work of Irene Montero in Equality

The Professional Association of the Judiciary, the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association, Judges for Democracy and the Independent Judicial Forum have censored this Tuesday a poster that has been placed in the intermodal station of

Palma

supported by the

Ministry of Equality

and other regional institutions for, in his opinion, "incurring in false, ridiculous and unfair stereotypes and topics".

This has been denounced by the judges in a statement in which they

"strongly reject such a campaign"

that has been promoted by the Ministry of Equality, the State Pact against Gender Violence, the Balearic Institute for Women and the Ministry of the Presidency, Public Function and Equality of the Government of the Balearic Islands.

As described in the statement, the poster shows a judge who addresses a woman with an arm in a sling and says

"How can I believe that your husband mistreats you if you are alive !!"

.

The judges denounce that this banner is "counterproductive" in relation to the purpose it should pursue since "it discourages any woman who suffers abuse from deciding to file a complaint."

In this sense, the magistrates' organizations assure that they work "whether they are women or men very hard and in conditions that are not always ideal, to try to attend to the victims of sexist violence."

Likewise, they assure that the drawing projects a

false image of reality

, since three out of four judges of violence against women are women (according to the 2021 Annual Report of the CGPJ).

Thus, they consider that the investment made by the organizations to fight against violence against women "would be much better used if it were dedicated to providing the Courts and Tribunals that deal with this matter with greater material and personal resources, as well as investment in education in equality and assistance resources for the victims, instead of defamatory posters and discouraging complaints".

Finally, the magistrates criticize that it is not the first time that a similar campaign has been carried out and they cite the example of the

Oviedo City Council,

which in 2019 promoted one of the same characteristics.

"It is irresponsible that public institutions give fuel to this type of message," he says.

For her part, the Minister of Justice,

Pilar Llop

, has censored the "unfair" image of the judges that has been shown in the exhibition.

"My energetic rejection of an unfair image of judges who fight against sexist violence every day, shown in the exhibition at the Inter Modal in Palma, 'Petits gests amb importància', in the Balearic Islands", he wrote in a message on his Twitter profile, collected by Europa Press.

The national spokesman for Citizens,

Edmundo Bal,

has also joined the condemnation, who has branded as "unqualifiable" that the Government joins a campaign of "discredit" the judges "with insults like that".

"Justice is a crucial pillar in the fight against gender violence and it is very serious to send this message of fear to female victims. We will ask for explanations," Bal added in a tweet.
