Scotland Yard has confirmed the imposition of 20 fines at Downing Street for breaches of Covid rules in the investigation of the

Partygate

.

The London police have, however, reported their intention to

"neither reveal nor confirm" the names

of the "fined" (with amounts starting at 120 euros).

Boris Johnson is among the hundred questioned for his alleged participation in half a dozen parties and events held at the

premier

's mansion during the

confinements due to the pandemic

.

A Downing Street spokesman, however, ruled out in advance the intention to make public whether Johnson himself will ultimately be forced to pay a fine.

"According to Boris Johnson, those parties never happened, so it

has been proven that he is a liar and that he

lied to Parliament

and the whole country," said Labor MP Wes Streeting, who demanded the

premier

's appearance in Westminster and the full publication from Senior Official Sue Gray's report on

Partygate

.

"We all know who is responsible and the Prime Minister must resign," said Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrat Party.

"If Boris Johnson thinks he can escape

Partygate

by paying expensive lawyers and

throwing a bunch of young advisers to the wolves

, he's dead wrong."

"The police investigation has served to show that the law was broken and these initial fines have exposed Boris Johnson's lies," said Kirsten Oswald, deputy parliamentary spokesperson for the Scottish National Party (SNP).

"Johnson should have resigned long ago, but his ego and his lack of dignity have allowed him to

cling desperately to his job

."

The

premier

weathered the storm with a perfect excuse: his presence at the celebration of the first anniversary of Philip of Edinburgh's death.

Scotland Yard's announcement came in fact just two hours before the massive event that brought together the top brass of political life and 1,800 guests at Westminster Abbey.

65% of Britons think Johnson has "lied" during the

Partygate

scandal , according to a ComRes poll.

Even among Conservative Party voters

, just 23% believe the

PM

has told the truth about holding parties in Downing Street while millions of Britons abided by lockdown rules."

A majority of Britons were in favor of the resignation of the "premier" just two months ago, but the political atmosphere has changed radically due to the war in Ukraine, used by Johnson to

hide his internal problems

and project an image of international statesman .
