Two Spanish nationals, aged 28 and 43, were sentenced by the court in Quimper (Finistère).

They were accused of having illegally fished barnacles in the Bigouden region, reports

The defendants had been caught in the act by a gendarmerie patrol on the night of March 2 to 3.

Inside their vehicle, the soldiers had found fishing rods, wet diving suits and the equivalent of 138.6 kg of barnacles.

The youngest, already sentenced in 2018 and 2021, admitted having caught 60 kg of these highly sought-after crustaceans.

His friend, for his part, said he caught the remaining 78 kg in Spain.

He would have come to Brittany to resell his goods.

In addition to fishing bans, the defendants were respectively fined 4,000 euros and 1,500 euros, including 1,000 suspended.

Their car was also seized.
