Science and Technology Daily News (Reporter Chen Xi) Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in women. Clinically, surgery is mainly used for comprehensive treatment. However, the absence of breasts after surgical resection often brings secondary problems to female patients. pain.

Breast reconstruction technology, especially immediate breast reconstruction, can allow patients to reduce this psychological pressure, but many patients also have doubts about this: Is immediate breast reconstruction safe?

Will it increase the risk of recurrence and metastasis?

Will my survival time change after surgery?

Yin Jian, director of the Breast Reconstruction Department of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital, conducted a study on 584 patients with invasive breast cancer who received immediate breast reconstruction from 2001 to 2016. The results show that, in women with invasive breast cancer, immediate breast reconstruction is safe and feasible. Yes, the choice of different reconstruction methods will not affect the long-term breast cancer-specific survival, local recurrence-free survival and disease-free survival.

The single-center retrospective study was recently published in the international journal Cancer Biology and Medicine.

According to reports, as an important part of the comprehensive treatment of breast cancer, breast reconstruction technology, especially immediate breast reconstruction, can not only reduce the appearance of breasts after surgery, improve the quality of life of patients after surgery, but also reduce the psychological pressure of women after surgery. It has been paid more and more attention by female patients.

In order to explore the safety of this technology, the Breast Reconstruction Department of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital, in conjunction with the Epidemiology Department, carried out a tumor safety study on the immediate breast reconstruction method for female invasive breast cancer patients, and summarized the long-term tumor safety of these patients. , and compare different reconstruction methods.

The study selected 584 female invasive breast cancer patients who underwent immediate breast reconstruction in Tianjin Cancer Hospital from 2001 to 2016. The median follow-up was 71.3 months. The predicted 10-year breast cancer-specific survival was 88.9% and disease-free survival was 79.6%. Local recurrence-free survival was 94.0%, and survival analysis was performed to compare the long-term oncological differences between patients with immediate autologous reconstruction and immediate prosthetic reconstruction.

Propensity score matching for 27 factors found no significant difference in these three survival outcomes between the two immediate reconstructive procedures.

The study was further stratified according to tumor stage, tissue grade, lymph node metastasis status, and vascular lymphatic invasion status, and found no significant difference in the oncological safety of different immediate reconstruction methods.

"Research shows that breast reconstruction based on standard breast cancer treatment is safe. At the same time, this study confirms the safety of immediate breast reconstruction in long-term oncology." Yin Jian said that patients with immediate breast reconstruction have more oncological adverse events Depending on the characteristics of the tumor itself, the stage of the disease, the integrity of comprehensive treatment and other factors, there is no obvious relationship with the choice of reconstruction method (autologous or prosthetic).
