The former first secretary of the PS Jean-Christophe Cambadélis announced on Tuesday the launch of a "social-democratic pole".

His goal ?

“Gathering the energies for a major change on the left after the presidential and legislative elections”.

Worried for the left

While the socialist presidential candidate Anne Hidalgo is bogged down in the polls around 2% of the voting intentions, Cambadélis observes that "the vital prognosis of the left is engaged", and that she "will be eliminated from the 1st presidential round” on April 10 and “marginalized in the legislative elections” in June.

“The Left is not there (…) it is dated, divided, radicalized,” he wrote in a press release, believing that “it will only regain its footing by changing its strategy, its political offer, its mode of organization”.

The “New Society” movement

He announces that his movement "New society, created in 2018 to propose a republican and social-democratic approach in the presidential election, decided on Monday to transform itself into New-Society-The Social Democratic Pole".

“It's about thinking and acting for a French-style social democracy.

And the Socialist Party, which remains the most established party in France, even if its national influence is residual today, must make this strategic change in the post-presidential period, ”judge Jean-Christophe Cambadélis.

New energy on the left

New Society-The Social Democratic Pole "proposes to gather energies for this major change on the left after the current elections", he still indicates.

“Only a social-democratic left can open a new course of its own in order to overcome the French crises and re-enchant the Left,” he asserts.

Several socialist personalities have already mentioned the need for a refoundation of the left, such as ex-president François Hollande, ex-Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, the mayor of Le Mans Stéphane Le Foll or the president of the Occitanie region. Carol Delga.
