The organizers hope the bandy fever stays in Åby: "Many children have got new idols"

After the organizer in Stockholm withdrew, the world championship in bandy for the ladies finally landed in Åby.

The Swedish Bandy Association, Växjö municipality and Åby Tjureda IF have shouldered the hosting together.

- In the beginning, there was an incredible amount of focus on the pandemic.

And then we did not know what would happen to the war for Russia and Ukraine.

We have had to plan and re-plan, says Tomas Ekelius, head of administration at Växjö municipality and project manager for the event.

What does it look like with the number of visitors?

- It is above expectations, there have been over a thousand people so far.

And we hope for as many today during the final, says Tomas Ekelius.

Now the municipality and Åby Tjureda IF hope that the bandy fever will continue.

- New sponsors have been found, many children and young people here have been given new idols that allow them to find their new sport, says Tomas Ekelius.

Sweden won the final against Norway 12-0.
