The situation remains tense in Nagorno-Karabakh, a secessionist province disputed between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

This is a first since the ceasefire of November 9, 2020. Moscow, which has imposed itself as the guarantor of its respect, denounces the responsibility of Azerbaijan in the rise in tensions over the past two weeks.

Denunciation which follows the telephone conversations, Friday and Saturday, between the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian and the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Predictable tensions

The Russian Ministry of Defense accuses the Azerbaijani forces of having penetrated into portions of territory normally under its responsibility, of carrying out attacks by Bayraktar drones, of Turkish manufacture, and in general of raising tension around the Upper -Karabakh.

Baku claims that it only countered the incursion of Armenian sabotage units.

In mid-November, after deadly scuffles, observers in the Caucasus feared new tensions at the end of winter.

While Azerbaijan is dissatisfied with the implementation of the terms of the peace signed at the end of 2020, whether it is the status of Nagorno-Karabakh or the opening of roads through the region.
