It was on March 15 that the Danish government presented the bill that would in practice ban all people who are today twelve years or younger from ever buying nicotine products.

The non-profit anti-smoking organization "A non smoking generation" wants to see the same proposal in Sweden.

- This is something we have been looking for for a long time, we look enviously at Denmark, says Secretary General Helen Stjerna.

If the bill passes, it would mean that a person who is 3242 years old in 2042 is not allowed to buy tobacco, but that a person who is 33 years old is allowed to.

After the radical smoking proposal in Denmark - now they want Sweden to follow suit

"Congratulations to Denmark"

Helen Stjerna believes that Denmark is a pioneering country and that it is far ahead of Sweden in these areas.

- They have been incredibly offensive in recent years and have been at the forefront when it comes to regulating tobacco consumption.

But is it not a problem to restrict people's freedom?

- No, it's just to say congratulations to Denmark and the Danish young people who get a tobacco-free school time.

"Nobody really wants to start"

According to Helen Stjerna, it is no problem to ban people who have never tested nicotine products from buying them in the future.

- What we see is that it is only children who start smoking and snuff.

Nobody really wants to start but it is almost always a result of peer pressure.

Is not that a simplified way of looking at it?

- No, it really is not.

Somewhere society must stop.

Do you see any problems with this bill?

- No not really.
