After Cameroon, Cinema Week moves to Niger

The districts of the Nigerien capital and certain regions will be lively from this Sunday, March 27, for the whole week.

For good reason, the 2nd edition of the Film Week which is held there and where around forty films will be screened.

An initiative of young African directors who want to promote and make freely accessible to the general public the various cinematographic works of Africa and its diaspora.

Moving films from cinemas to neighborhoods is one of the objectives of this traveling festival, the first edition of which was hosted in 2021 by Cameroon.

The choice of Niger to host this edition lies in its recent past, according to the General Commissioner, Aziz Abdramane Sanfo: "

After having made a brief analysis of what is happening in cinema today in Africa, we realize that 'in Niger they are really lacking in production and it's not only the lack of production, but there is also this aspect of quality production.

Forty films broadcast across the country

African women in the film industry are in the spotlight this year.

Actresses, producers or screenwriters were celebrated throughout the opening gala through screenings and presentation of their works.

Some directors have also received scholarships and financial support.

Among them, Maimouna Oumarou Garba, a young director from Niger: “

 It was a very nice surprise, I am passionate about cinema and there I learned that I was receiving a scholarship, for me it was a great opening.

»

Young people who embrace this profession will benefit from several training courses throughout the festival and around forty films will be projected on giant screens across the country to the delight of Nigerien film lovers.
