The Dubai Police General Command treated 10 cases of illness last year, some of whom suffered from serious symptoms as a result of "decompression" disease, using oxygen in the oxygen therapy room of the Search and Rescue Department, located next to the Dubai Police Health Center at the headquarters of the General Command.

The head of the Health Fitness Division in the Search and Rescue Department, and responsible for treatment in the pressure room, Major Ismail Hassan Mahmoud, said that the oxygen therapy room is the first of its kind in the police devices in the Middle East, and the only one in Dubai and the Northern Emirates to deal with pressure incidents, and provides its services within the framework of Dubai Police Social Responsibility.

He added that Dubai Police treated several cases in this room, some of which were in an advanced stage, among them a 35-year-old who was exposed to decompression sickness, as a result of diving 4 consecutive times at different times without taking into account the diving schedules in depth and timing, which caused This led to his suffering from decompression sickness resulting from the increase in the concentration of nitrogen in the tissues, and the inability of the body to get rid of due to the increase in the number of diving times and the depth distance, which required him to attend the pressure room headquarters, and to perform an x-ray on his chest.

Mahmoud indicated that after his examination, it was found that he had severe weakness in the feet, with slow sensation, lower back pain, imbalance during walking, severe pain in the left shoulder with severe numbness in the lower extremities, severe abdominal pain and difficulty urinating.

The case was diagnosed with severe decompression sickness, and he was admitted to the pressure room, to implement the therapeutic diving schedules, until his condition improved and his symptoms were completely removed.

For his part, a specialist in diving and oxygen therapy, Dr. Saddam Al-Maamari, said that the method of oxygen therapy in pressure chambers is suitable for all diseases resulting from the lack of oxygen reaching cells and tissues, including sudden deafness, gangrene, carbon monoxide poisoning, tinnitus and diseases caused by radiotherapy. Orthopedic diseases, in case of injury or after unsuccessful skin transplants, artificial organ transplantation or when treating burns, severe anemia, brain abscess, multiple sclerosis,

He added that the room also deals with various diving accidents, including those caused by some divers' failure to adhere to the global procedures followed for diving, by spending long hours underwater or rapid ascent without adhering to the recommended stops, or deep and frequent diving and exposure to strong currents, which results in bubbles of nitrogen. In the diver’s body’s bloodstream, these bubbles begin to move from one area to another in the body, and cause clogging of the arteries and blood tissues, pointing out that the nature of the injury changes according to where the bubble stops, as it sometimes stands in the spine, brain, or inner ear.

He stressed the need to adhere to security and safety procedures while diving, and not to take risks that may lead to serious injuries and accidents, some of which may lead to unconsciousness, paralysis, and sometimes death.

In addition, the specialist in diving and oxygen therapy, Dr. Alaa Sheta, stated that the pressure therapy room consists of a metal cylinder, in which the injured spend a number of hours according to the diagnosis of their health condition, and they breathe intermittently with 100% pure oxygen, under pressure higher than the surrounding atmospheric pressure. The room is sealed during treatment that requires several sessions that may reach ten or more.

The official in charge of treatment in the room, Major Ismail Mahmoud, called on community members to contact the emergency number 999 or the number 046095555, in emergency cases to request treatment in the pressure room, and in non-emergency cases, call 044166666 during official working hours.
