Xinhua News Agency, Manila, March 26 (Reporter Liu Kai and Yan Jie) The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on the 26th that the Taal Volcano, about 60 kilometers south of the capital Manila, erupted in a small amount of steam that morning, and the relevant alert level has been raised to three class.

In a statement, the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the Taal Volcano briefly erupted that morning with steam at a height of about 1,500 meters, accompanied by seismic activity.

The alert level for volcanic eruptions in the Philippines is divided into five levels from low to high, with three levels meaning that the volcano "may erupt within a few weeks or days."

The Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reminded the public to stay away from the volcanic area and fly around.

Taal Volcano, located in Batangas Province, Luzon Island, is one of the most active of the more than 20 known active volcanoes in the Philippines.

In January 2020, Taal Volcano spewed a large amount of volcanic ash, affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in many surrounding provinces and causing economic losses of hundreds of millions of dollars.

The Philippines is located in the Pacific Rim Volcanic Seismic Belt, where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur frequently.
