European Summit The EU accepts "a special treatment" for Spain and Portugal to deal with energy prices
Government Sánchez, concerned about a failure of his tour: "The European Summit cannot end without an agreement"
The president of the Xunta and next leader of the PP,
Alberto Núñez Feijóo
, believes that "the agreement reached yesterday in the European Council shows once again that in Spain we have a government that lacks a clear strategy to lower the price of electricity" .
This has been stated this Saturday by PP sources from the
popular
leader's environment .
"It is evident that the Government was not able to convince the rest of the countries of the European Union," values the party, "and that it has had to settle for this alternative, with this improvised exit that, at the very least, is late."
"
The damage done to families, SMEs, the self-employed and industry in general is irreparable
, so we hope that on Tuesday the Government will adopt measures in the Council of Ministers that really lower the price of electricity and can respond to what they need. both households and the business fabric for a long time", affirm the sources consulted.
The
popular
thus refer to the policy deployed by
Pedro Sánchez
in recent weeks to alleviate the effects that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is having on energy prices.
The Government chose not to take any action until the European Council was held and put all its efforts into getting the community partners to approve a reform of the energy market and a general intervention in prices.
To do this, the President of the Government made an international tour, which took him to several countries, including the most important: Germany, France and Italy.
In the end, Sánchez has had to give up his initial objectives, settling for the "special treatment" that the EU has admitted for Spain and Portugal.
In the opinion of the PP, "we are playing a lot and
the Government has so far been unable to manage the problem
."
"We consider that it is already taking too long to put useful measures on the table such as those that we have proposed from Galicia (for example, lowering taxes), just as it has been too late to sit down with the carriers and find a solution," they value. in the surroundings of Feijóo.
"We must remember that the context we live in today is also caused by the position maintained by the Government of depending exclusively on a technology such as gas, going in the opposite direction to the position of the rest of European partners", they add, in reference to
possible alternatives such as nuclear power
.
"A clear proof of this abrupt energy transition that is taking us nowhere is that, unfortunately, Spain already has on its resume the
merit
of being the first to close thermal power plants and the first to reopen them, as is the case of As Pontes (A Coruña). We are facing an erratic government, which was not able to provide solutions and does not even listen to those who, as is the case in Galicia, make proposals to get out of this situation, "they conclude.
