The foreign word synoikeiosis, which comes from ancient Greek, is probably not necessarily familiar even to supporters of an elaborate use of language.

It is most often translated literally as "participation".

Anyone looking for a simple definition could look it up in Pier Paolo Pasolini: he speaks of synoikeiosis as a "combination of dissimilar things" and immediately adds that this is precisely the stylistic device that dominates his works.

A little more colloquially, one could simply say, starting from the root of the word “öko” (house in the broader sense), that Pasolini got a lot under one roof.

He was one of the most important European intellectuals after the war, his murder in 1975 provokes a wide variety of interpretations to this day - was it simply a sudden act of violence on one of the "remote meadows",

On the centenary of his birthday, the volume of media is again considerable, but Pasolini has not been quiet over the years.

His positions are too relatable to contemporary debates for that, while at the same time he can be considered one of the cleverest decipherers of the 20th century with his deliberate non-simultaneity.

He saw himself as a Marxist semiotician and he was a great worker on myth.

Alongside his brother, who died as a partisan in World War II, he saw himself as “Mozart's son”, growing up with his mother's “poetic”, peasant, gentle religion.

His family roots stretched all over the country, he saw himself as a "product of Italian unity".

Crucial to his worldview was the encounter with an agrarian immediacy that he made at a young age in Friuli, where he began to write poetry - in the regional dialect, which he had to learn first, while fascism fought everything local and any inculturation of language .

There were numerous intellectual periodicals and television formats that were obviously exciting and entertaining, in which Pasolini met his former classmates from school on one occasion and was able to talk about social upheavals on the women's program "Donna donna" on another.

Pasolini saw himself (in this respect related to a predecessor such as Charles Péguy in France) as witnessing a change in which orders that had existed for thousands of years suddenly disappeared: peasants became petty bourgeois.
