Biden calls Putin a 'butcher'

US President Joe Biden called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a "butcher" during his meeting with Ukrainian refugees in Warsaw on Saturday.

Asked what he thought of "Vladimir Putin for what he's doing to these people," Biden said, "He's a butcher."

Biden reassured Poland of NATO support, amid Russia's ongoing war on Ukraine.

"We consider Article 5 a sacred obligation, and you can count on that," Biden told Polish President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw.

Biden also said he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin "is counting on division and being able to separate the East from the West."

However, he said he was unable to do so.

Biden also thanked Poland for accepting refugees from Ukraine.

"We recognize that Poland bears a great responsibility, which I do not think should be for Poland only," he said.
